What is an oil-free magnetic bearing turbine?
A turbine is actually a centrifugal compressor. The functional principle is similar to that of the turbocharger!
Magnetic bearing motors are used as laser flow machines (LSM) in laser machines for sheet metal processing, as turbo compressors in large industrial compressors, as magnetic bearing spindles in metal cutting technology!
In laser machines, the turbine is "sitting" in the middle of the beam generator. The gas is aspirated axially and ejected radially.
Due to the acceleration in the impeller or runner of the turbine, the gas experiences a dynamic pressure increase, which is available as a static pressure level at the compressor outlet after the compression process. The result is a vortex-free gas flow.
At a fixed frequency of 760 Hz or 900 Hz, the magnetic bearing laser turbine reaches a speed of 45600 rpm or 54000 rpm! The turbine housings are water-cooled.
The magnetic bearing electronics keep the magnet-equipped rotor shaft suspended in its position. Special “catch” bearings prevent mechanical damage to the rotor in a worst-case scenario. The rotor and the impeller are in a vacuum, the encapsulated motor winding is outside the vacuum!
Thus, a magnetic bearing laser turbine offers no mech. friction losses, it prevents heat transfer losses, it has a generally higher durability, reliability and robustness!
